Course Description
This course is a review of the laws, codes, and procedures covered by the General contractor’s License Examination for commercial construction. It includes a review of the licensing and application process with a detailed review of North Carolina Building Code. The North Carolina Administration and Enforcement Codes and the North Carolina Accessibility Codes are also reviewed. Standard industry practices and materials, including business formation, accounting and finance, employer obligations, and North Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirement are reviewed in detail.

Learner Outcomes
Prepares students to take the licensure exam for the Building Classification of the North Carolina General Contractor’s License. (The license is administered by the North Carolina Licensing Board of General Contractors.)
Students will have a general understanding of the North Carolina Building Code, and will be able to demonstrate their competency with the code by locating code provision, and by providing an interpretation as to the application of the code in the building industry.
Upon completion, students will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of standard construction industry practices, and the application and use of construction materials and the appropriate use thereof.
Students completing this course will have a working knowledge of the commercial, multi-family, and single family dwelling building processes, including the business considerations that are a part of every construction project.
