Course Description

This course is a review of the laws, codes, and procedures covered by the General Contractor’s License Examination for residential and light constructions. This classification includes construction of all one and two family dwellings covered by the North Carolina Residential Code.

Learner Outcomes

  • Prepare students to take the licensure exam for the Residential Classification of the North Carolina General Contractor’s License. (The license is administered by the North Carolina Licensing Board of General Contractors.)
  • Students will have a general understanding of the North Carolina Residential Building Code, and will be able to demonstrate competency with the code by locating code provision, and by providing an interpretation as to the application of the code in the building industry.
  • Upon completion, students will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of standard construction industry practices, the application and use of construction materials, and the appropriate use thereof.
  • Students completing this course will have a working knowledge of the home-building process including the business considerations that are a part of the construction of every home.
