TRA-LIN7020 - Lineworker CDL
Course Description
This class has been created exclusively for those students in Central Piedmont's lineworker program. Students will receive instruction related to the North Carolina CDL: safety, vehicle inspection, air brakes, and familiarization with lineworker bucket trucks. Students are required to obtain a CDL permit, DOT medical card, and a DOT drug screen once class begins. These documents are required prior to road training with an instructor. (Note: This course MUST be taken concurrently with LIN 7018.)Course Outline

- Identifying What Makes a Vehicle Not Road Ready
- Successfully Engaging a Standard Transmission on an Incline
- Successful Shifting of a Manual Transmission
- Backing a Trailer at Multiple Angles
- Coupling and Uncoupling of Trailers
- Obtaining a CDL License with Restrictions
Learner Outcomes
The student will be able to achieve the following objective in accordance with the information received during the instructional period:
- Successful completion of the Federal Entry Level Driver Training
- Ability to list the areas drivers must check during an initial inspection
- Successfully complete pre and post trip inspections
- Determine how to successfully engage a standard transmission on an incline
- Properly shift a manual transmission through the appropriate gears
- Properly back a trailer at multiple angles including 90 and 45 degrees
- Conduct proper coupling and uncoupling of trailers
- Achieve a CDL license with restrictions
