Course Description

CompTIA Network+ is an intermediate-level vendor-neutral certification that validates the essential knowledge and skills needed to securely establish, maintain, and troubleshoot the essential networks that businesses rely on. In this class, you will learn all the specific skills that network professionals need, with the hands-on and precise knowledge required in today’s networking environments. The Network+ certification is continuously updated, by taking this class you'll stay up-to-date with current networking practices. After obtaining your Network+ credential, you'll be well-positioned to pursue roles such as network administrator, network technician, or IT support specialist.

This is a blended class with instructor-led coaching and self-paced online learning, you will need to plan at least 5 hours per week for self-directed learning.

Learner Outcomes

This class will teach you the configuration, management, and troubleshooting of common wired and wireless network devices. At the end of this class, you should be able to:

  • Networking Fundamentals: Explain basic networking concepts including network services, physical connections, topologies and architecture, and cloud connectivity.
  • Network Implementations: Explain routing technologies and networking devices; deploy ethernet solutions and configure wireless technologies.
  • Network Operations: Monitor and optimize networks to ensure business continuity.
  • Network Security: Explain security concepts and network attacks to harden networks against threats.
  • Network Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot common cable, connectivity, and software issues related to networking.

Target Audience:
The CompTIA Network+ certification and related classes are designed for individuals who are interested in building a career in network administration and support roles.  Entry-level IT professionals who aspire to become network technicians and need a strong foundational understanding of networking concepts.  IT support professionals who want to expand their skill set to include network troubleshooting and management. In general individuals from diverse career backgrounds who are interested in pursuing a career in network administration, and need a certification to facilitate their transition.

CompTIA Network+ is an intermediate-level certification that covers a wide range of networking topics, including network design, configuration, troubleshooting, security, and maintenance. It serves as an excellent certification for individuals who want to enter or advance in the field of network administration and support.

Occupational Outlook:
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of network and computer systems administrators is projected to grow 2 percent from 2022 to 2032, about as fast as the average for all occupations  The median annual wage for network and computer systems administrators was $90,520 in May 2022.


Information Technology Continuing Education Certificate: 
This course is part of the Jr. Cyber Security Certificate. Certificates are awarded with the completion of all required courses (no substitutions). A certificate of completion for the class will be issued to participants with at least 80% attendance, class participation, and completion of hands-on practice and projects.

Industry Certification:
This class prepares you for the CompTIA Network+ Certification exam N10-008 through Pearson VUE.

Method of Instruction: 
Blended learning with lectures, videos, live discussions, live demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and problem-solving. Outside homework is assigned.

Evaluation:
Participation in class discussions and completion of skill practices in and outside of the classroom is expected. Class attendance is required for successful completion.

Prerequisites

Prerequisite knowledge: Students must have the following skills and knowledge before starting this course or have taken our CompTIA A+/IT Support Technician:
  • Configure and support PC, laptop, mobile (smartphone / tablet), and print devices.
  • Know basic network terminology and functions (such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, switches, routers).
  • Configure and manage users, groups, and shared resources in a simple SOHO network.
  • Understand the use of basic access control measures, such as authentication, security policy, encryption, and firewalls.
  • Understand TCP/IP addressing, core protocols, and troubleshooting tools.

Materials: This class does not include course materials. Students are required to purchase the necessary materials directly from the bookstore or our designated partner. Please ensure you have all the required materials before the first day of class.

Resources: Students must have access to a working Windows-based computer (capable of running the latest updates), reliable internet, a camera, a headset, and preferably dual monitors.
