Course Description

The Google UX Design Certificate is an entry-level credential designed for individuals with little or no prior experience in UX design. This program provides a comprehensive introduction to the field, equipping you with foundational skills in user research, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing, and interaction design. Developed in collaboration with industry-leading tools like Figma and Adobe XD, and supported by Google’s network of hiring partners, the course offers practical, hands-on learning to prepare you for roles such as UX designer, UI designer, or interaction designer. Delivered online and self-paced via the Coursera platform, the program also includes support from a Central Piedmont subject matter expert, with virtual office hours and group meetings to guide you through the learning process. Whether you’re starting fresh or looking to pivot your career, this certificate is your first step into the high-demand field of UX design.

 

Course Outline

This certificate has 7 courses, you must complete all to obtain the Google Certificate: 

Course 1: Foundations of User Experience (UX) Design 

Course 2: Start the UX Design Process: Empathize, Define, and Ideate 

Course 3: Build Wireframes and Low-Fidelity Prototypes 

Course 4: Conduct UX Research and Test Early Concepts 

Course 5: Create High-Fidelity Designs and Prototypes in Figma 

Course 6: Responsive Web Design in Adobe XD 

Course 7: Design a User Experience for Social Good & Prepare for Jobs 

 

Learner Outcomes

Upon completing the Google UX Design Certificate, program graduates will: 

  • Have a portfolio website that includes 3 end-to-end projects: a mobile app, a responsive website, and a cross-platform experience. 
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Figma and Adobe XD, two of the most in-demand design tools by employers. 
  • Know how to follow the design process: empathize with users, define pain points, ideate solutions, create wireframes and prototypes, and test and iterate on designs. 
  • Understand the basics of UX research, like planning research studies, conducting interviews and usability studies, and synthesizing research results.

Target Audience: 
You don't need prior experience in design to start this program. It's suitable for beginners and those looking to transition into UX design from other fields. This class will help you jumpstart your career in the UX Design field as a UX designer, UI designer, or interaction designer. The Google UX Design Certificate offers a comprehensive and accessible path to a career in UX design, backed by the reputation of Google. It equips you with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the field, and the demand for UX designers continues to grow, making it a promising career choice. 

Occupational Outlook: 
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that employment of data workers is projected to grow 16 percent from 2022 to 2032, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 19,000 openings for web developers and digital designers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire. Educational requirements for web developers and digital designers vary, ranging from a high school diploma to a bachelor’s degree. The median annual wage for web and digital interface designers was $83,240 in May 2022.

Certificates of completion are awarded with the completion of all required courses in the scheduled class.

Method of instruction: 
Video lectures, reading, hands-on labs, writing assignments, and formative assessments. 

Evaluation: 
Must pass graded quizzes and labs with at least 80% or above, submit written assignments, and participate in learner forums. 

 

Prerequisites

Basic Computer Skills: Participants must have basic computer knowledge including typing, windows filing, internet browsing, downloading, working in the cloud, and account creation.  

Resources: Access to a computer and reliable internet is required.
