Course Description

This course helps students develop the knowledge and skills needed to gain employment in the electrical industry. This class introduces safety precautions and awareness of job surroundings. Instruction includes residential wiring, alternating current, motors, theory and application, electric lighting, and conductors. The topics covered will help students to gain insight and help in understanding how electricity is installed on a job site. The course is taught by National Center for Construction Research (NCCER) certified instructors who will help students build a foundation of knowledge while earning industry recognized credentials. (Prerequisite ELC-ELX8010)

Successful completion of this class and its prerequisite will provide NCCER Electrical Level 1 Certification.

Learner Outcomes

  • Discuss and lay out residential wiring.
  • Obtain an understanding of conduit and junction boxes and describe their use.
  • Discuss and describe AC circuits.
  • Obtain an understanding of AC and DC motors and their functions.
  • Discuss how to evaluate and install light sources to cover a given area.

Notes

Successfully completing this class and its prerequisite (ELX-8010) will provide the student with the NCCER Electrical Level 1 Certification. Closed-toe shoes are required in all lab environments.
