Course Description

The AWS Academy Cloud Operations course is an online, intermediate-level program designed to prepare students for entry-level DevOps, cloud operations, and support roles. The course covers AWS infrastructure, automation, security, networking, storage, and monitoring, with an emphasis on operational best practices. Students will gain hands-on experience in deploying, managing, and troubleshooting AWS environments using AWS tools, the Command Line Interface (CLI), and automation frameworks. This course aligns with the AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate certification and provides practical knowledge to help students succeed in cloud operations careers. 

 

Course Outline

This course consists of 11 modules covering key AWS cloud operations concepts: 

  1. Welcome and Overview – Introduction to AWS Academy Cloud Operations and key course objectives. 
  2. Understanding Systems Operations on AWS – Core AWS services, IAM, CLI usage, and global infrastructure. 
  3. Tooling and Automation – AWS Systems Manager, automation tools, and static website hosting on Amazon S3. 
  4. Computing (Servers) – Managing AWS instances, security, and purchasing options for EC2. 
  5. Computing (Scaling and Name Resolution) – Load balancing, EC2 Auto Scaling, and Route 53 configurations. 
  6. Computing (Containers and Serverless) – AWS Lambda, API Gateway, containerization, and serverless computing. 
  7. Computing (Database Services) – AWS database solutions including RDS, Aurora, and DynamoDB. 
  8. Networking – Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), security, and connectivity options. 
  9. Storage and Archiving – AWS storage services such as EBS, EFS, Amazon S3, and Glacier. 
  10. Monitoring and Security – CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and AWS security tools. 
  11. Managing Resource Consumption and Cloud Architecting – AWS cost optimization, resource tagging, automation, and AWS CloudFormation. 

The course includes hands-on labs and real-world troubleshooting activities to help students apply their knowledge in practical scenarios.

By the end of this course, students will be able to: 

  • Deploy and manage AWS compute instances, including security, scaling, and automation. 
  • Utilize AWS CLI and automation tools for cloud operations and infrastructure management. 
  • Implement security best practices using IAM, network security, and AWS monitoring services. 
  • Manage databases, networking, and storage using AWS services like RDS, DynamoDB, VPC, and S3. 
  • Monitor and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure with AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and AWS Config. 
  • Optimize cloud resources and implement automation using AWS CloudFormation and cost management tools.

Industry Certification: 

This course prepares students for the AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate certification, which validates expertise in AWS system operations, monitoring, security, and automation. This certification is valuable for anyone pursuing cloud operations, IT support, and DevOps roles. 

Information Technology Continuing Education Certificate:  

A certificate of completion for the class will be issued to participants with at least 70% of successful completion of labs and assessments. 

Method of Instruction:  

On-demand instructor sessions based on student’s needs during weekly open office hours. 

Evaluation: 

Evaluation is based on the on the successful completion of labs and assessments 

 

Prerequisites

Knowledge: 

AWS Academy Cloud Operations requires a strong foundation in IT concepts and skills. To ensure success, students should have: 

  • Completed AWS Cloud Foundations or have equivalent experience 
  • A working knowledge of at least one scripting language 
  • Familiarity with Linux, the command line and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) 
  • Familiarity with virtualization and distributed computing 
  • An understanding of version control (e.g., Git) 
  • An understanding of data storage mechanisms such as SQL 

Resources:  

  • Participants are required to have a laptop or desktop computer with a minimum 4GB ram, 256GB HD, Core i5. Recommended 8GB ram, 256GB SSD, Core i5.   
  • Access to reliable internet.
