Course Description

With the growing need in the alterations industry for skilled tailors/alterations professionals, this class is designed to prepare students to meet industry standards in the area of alterations. Working on our industrial quality machines, you will learn step-by-step instructions based on the instructor's years of experience in high-end boutiques and department stores as well as in the management and ownership of tailoring shops. This course, along with Professional Alterations II will prepare you for entry level employment in alterations shops, your own profitable home business or a tailored wardrobe of your own. A CPCC certificate will be earned after completion of both Professional Alterations I and II.

Course Outline

  1. Tools and their usage
  2. Basic fitting techniques / measurements / markings
  3. Basic pant alterations
  4. Basic coat alterations
  5. Basic skirt and dress alterations
  6. Ironing, pressing, and steaming

Learner Outcomes

Development of skills that will expand the student's existing sewing techniques, practically apply these skills to a variety of garments/body types and equip the student to develop a trade that could potentially create job opportunities.

HMK 8757 and HMK 8751 or approval by Program Developer
