Course Description
Excellence in Community College Teaching is an opportunity for educators from any discipline or program area, whether at Central Piedmont or other community colleges—to learn new skills and refine existing ones. This certification program provides participants with an understanding and awareness of effective course design, technology integration, student engagement, classroom management techniques, and faculty resources that support student retention, completion, and success.

Learner Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- (LO1): Explain the historical development, mission, and role of community colleges in higher education and articulate how these factors influence teaching practices and student success. (SESSION 1)
- (LO2): Design student-centered learning experiences by applying principles of teaching philosophy, instructional anchors, and strategies tailored to the diverse needs of community college learners. (SESSION 1)
- (LO3): Develop measurable student learning outcomes and authentic assessments using frameworks such as Bloom’s Taxonomy to promote effective teaching and learning. (SESSION 2)
- (LO4): Plan for inclusive and supportive classroom practices that foster engagement, collaboration, and equity, including strategies for classroom management, accommodations, and mental health support. (SESSION 3)
