Course Description

Join our Mommy & Me Cupcake Decorating Class—an exciting, chef-led baking adventure for children ages 6+ and their parent or guardian. Discover fun decorating tricks like piping and sprinkles, boost creativity, teamwork, and confidence, and take home sweet masterpieces. Perfect for a memorable, hands-on family activity!

Course Outline

Module 1: Welcome & Kitchen Safety

Duration: 10 minutes

Topics Covered:

· Introduction to Chef Stacy Davis-Hayes

· Overview of class activities

· Basic kitchen hygiene

· Safe use of decorating tools

Activity:

· Handwashing demonstration

· Introduction to decorating supplies

Module 2: Cupcake Decorating Fundamentals

Duration: 10–15 minutes

Topics Covered:

· Parts of a cupcake

· Frosting consistency

· Decorating tools and equipment

Tools Introduced:

· Piping bags

· Couplers

· Decorating tips

· Offset spatulas

· Sprinkle containers

Activity:

· Practice piping frosting on parchment paper

Module 3: Beginner Piping Techniques

Duration: 15 minutes

Students learn three basic decorating techniques.

Technique 1: Classic Swirl

Technique 2: Rosette Flower

Technique 3: Smooth Frosting Finish

Activity:

· Guided instructor demonstration

· Student practice

Module 4: Cupcake Decorating Workshop

Duration: 25–30 minutes

Parent-child teams decorate 4 cupcakes using learned techniques.

Cupcake Themes:

1️⃣ Classic Swirl Cupcake 2️⃣ Rosette Flower Cupcake 3️⃣ Sprinkle Explosion Cupcake 4️⃣ Creative Design Cupcake

Students use:

· Colored buttercream

· Sprinkles

· Candy toppings

Module 5: Creative Cupcake Challenge

Duration: 10 minutes

Students design a cupcake using their imagination.

Encourages:

· Creativity

· Color combinations

· Artistic presentation

Optional awards:

· Most Creative

· Best Use of Sprinkles

· Prettiest Cupcake

 

Module 6: Presentation & Celebration

Duration: 5–10 minutes

Activities:

· Students present their cupcakes

· Group photo opportunity

· Packaging cupcakes in bakery boxes

Learner Outcomes

• Introduce beginner cupcake decorating techniques

• Teach safe kitchen practices and hygiene

• Encourage teamwork between parent/guardian/ or loved one and the child

• Develop creativity through edible design

• Build confidence in the kitchen

Notes

You must wear CLOSED-TOE shoes and hair required to be pulled back. 

Participants in the culinary class are required to contribute to cleaning the kitchen area prior to the conclusion of the session.

For safety and to ensure an enjoyable experience, it is best that each child is paired with a parent or guardian when registering for our fun parent and child cupcake class. We appreciate your understanding and support in helping us create a safe and memorable environment for everyone.

We Kindly ask that the parent or guardian review and complete the general liability waiver, release and hold harmless agreement form. The form is required to be completed prior to the start of the class.  

Please note that due to the age of children and our registration system, both parents and children must register through customer service. Online registration is not available for this class.  To register, please contact our customer service team directly at 704.330.4223. 

You must wear CLOSED-TOE shoes and hair pulled back  

All Students must participate in hands on portion and this does include clean up time

  • Headed east on North Kings Drive, the parking lot is right after you cross Elizabeth Avenue.
  • Turn right when you see the sign: “Visitor Parking Lot 31, Greenway Restaurant, Philip L. Van Every Culinary Arts Center.” (This turn is before you reach Armory Drive.)
