Course Description
Transform an ordinary pumpkin into a stunning work of art! In this fun, hands-on workshop, you'll learn professional pumpkin carving techniques used to create eye-catching seasonal displays for your home, office, or special events. Guided by a chef instructor, you'll explore knife safety, carving tools, pattern transfer, design techniques, and creative finishing touches while completing your own carved pumpkin to take home. Whether you're carving your very first jack-o'-lantern or looking to elevate your artistic skills, this class offers a festive and creative way to celebrate the fall season. No prior carving experience is required—all skill levels are welcome.Course Outline
Students will explore the fundamentals of decorative pumpkin carving through instructor demonstrations, guided practice, and hands-on carving activities. Course content includes Introduction to Decorative Pumpkin Carving Overview of pumpkin carving traditions, design concepts, project planning, and examples of professional carved displays Safety & Carving Tools Safe handling of carving knives and specialty tools, proper workspace setup, and techniques for selecting and preparing pumpkins. Design Transfer & Carving Techniques Learn how to transfer patterns, create depth and dimension, use positive and negative space, and apply professional carving methods. Hands-On Pumpkin Carving Lab Students will complete a guided pumpkin carving project while receiving individualized instruction and coaching throughout the process. Lighting, Display & Preservation Techniques for illuminating carved pumpkins, extending the life of finished carvings, and creating attractive seasonal displays for home or events. Project Review & Wrap-Up Students will present their completed projects, discuss techniques learned, and receive recommendations for continued practice and future seasonal carving projects.Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Demonstrate safe handling and proper use of pumpkin carving knives and specialty carving tools.
Select and prepare pumpkins for successful carving projects.
Transfer a design or pattern onto a pumpkin using appropriate layout techniques.
Apply basic carving techniques to create depth, detail, and visual interest in a finished pumpkin.
Create a completed decorative pumpkin suitable for seasonal home or event display.
Demonstrate proper cleaning, lighting, and preservation techniques to extend the life of a carved pumpkin.

Notes
Students must be 16 years of age or older to enroll in this course.
Participants in this culinary class are required to contribute to cleaning the kitchen area prior to the conclusion of the session.
All pumpkins, carving tools, and instructional materials will be provided unless otherwise noted.
One pumpkin and all carving tools are provided as part of the course.
Students are welcome to bring additional pumpkins if they wish to practice multiple carving techniques, time permitting.
Students should wear closed toe comfortable clothing suitable for hands-on activities and closed-toe shoes.
Due to the use of sharp carving knives and tools, all participants are expected to follow instructor safety guidelines throughout the class.
Students will take their completed carved pumpkin home at the conclusion of the workshop.
