Course Description

The AHA Heartsaver CPR / AED course is taught by an instructor who is affiliated with and authorized to teach by the American Heart Association. CPR instruction includes high-quality chest compressions, airway management, breathing, and how to use a pocket mask.

Course Outline

  1. Identify scene safety
  2. Recognize the need for CPR
  3. Demonstrate high quality cardiac compressions
  4. Demonstrate ventilation using pocket mask
  5. Demonstrate use of Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
  6. Recognize and give aid to someone who is choking

Learner Outcomes

Participants will learn:

  • Adult CPR and AED use
  • Adult choking (foreign body airway obstruction)
  • Child CPR and AED use (optional)
  • Child choking (optional)
  • Infant CPR and AED use (optional)
  • Infant choking (optional)

Notes

Method of instruction: Heartsaver CPR / AED presentation of information through instructor lecture and DVD presentation; hands on skills practice with authorized AHA instructor

Evaluation: Class participation and demonstration of effective CPR and AED use
