Course Description

The student will receive instruction related to knowledge of North Carolina's CDL, driving safety, vehicle inspection, air brakes, along with public and employee relations. Students are required to obtain a CDL permit, DOT Medical Card and a DOT drug screen before class begins. These documents are required prior to registration.

 

Learner Outcomes

The student will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with the information received during the instructional period:

  • ELDT Theory Range and Road
  • Pre-trip inspection
  • What makes a vehicle road worthy
  • Learning to drive a vehicle with an automatic transmission
  • Inclines
  • Backing at various angles (90 and 45 degrees)
  • Straight backing
  • Coupling and uncoupling of trailers
  • Over the road driving
  • Post-trip inspections
  • Class A skills overview and practice

 

Notes

Method of instruction: Lecture and lab including vehicle driving and testing.

Evaluation: exam with a test score of 80 or better, demonstration of skills and class participation.
