Course Description

General Maintenance and auto repairs to properly maintain and perform level C work on vehicles and knowledge on procedures required for certification as a North Carolina OBD II Inspector-Mechanic. This class will include standardized method of testing and evaluating the performance and knowledge of inspector-mechanics conducting North Carolina State Safety Inspections.

-Heating Ventilation and Air conditioning
-Emission control devices
-Calibrate and utilize a headlight aimer
-Calibrate and utilize a window tint meter

Learner Outcomes

Perform basic engine repair
Understand the importance of changing fluids, belts, air filters, wiper blades
Understand Fuel systems and the difference in fuel
Be able to recognize suspension systems, ball joints and tie rods
Be able to recognize brake systems and repairs
Understand Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
Identify inspection areas inspector mechanics must check during a safety inspection
Identify emission control devices installed by manufacturers
Determine what emission control devices are required on a vehicle
Calibrate and utilize a headlight aimer
Calibrate and utilize a window tint meter
Identify vehicles that require and OBD II inspection
List in writing the fees associated with an OBD II inspection
Explain when a waiver of the inspection requirements can be issued
Successfully pass a Division approved written exam with a score no less than 80%

Notes

3 hour classes twice a week for a total of 8 weeks (48 hours).
Also during the class two days at 8 hours each for the Safety and OBD II class and testing.
