This course is designed to prepare the student to become a certified EKG technician.

Course Outline

  1. Cardiac Anatomy and Physiology
  2. Cardiac conduction system
  3. Normal cardiac rhythm and
  4. Cardiac dysrhythmias
  5. Patient prep
  6. EKG machine operation
  7. Running and mounting EKG strips
  8. Reading and interpreting cardiac lead tracings
  9. Basics of capnography
  10. Certification Prep

Learner Outcomes

This course is designed and approved to prepare the student to become a certified EKG (ECG) and Technician/Monitor. The course will cover the anatomy and physiology of the heart, principles of EKG, dysrhythmia recognition of sinus, junctional/atrial rhythms, heart blocks and bundle branches and ventricular ectopy rhythms. Skills will include operating EKG equipment, running and mounting strips as well as reading and interpreting cardiac lead tracings and to understand the basics of capnography as it relates to heart function. Upon completion, student will be eligible to take the CET (Certified EKG Technician) through NHA (National Healthcareer Association).

Prerequisites

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
