PHM-HEA7901 - Central Sterile Processing II
Course Description
This course provides supervised experience in sterile processing techniques in a clinical facility. Emphasis is placed on preparation, storage, and distribution of instruments, supplies and equipment, quality assurance, and inventory management. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate competence in sterile processing techniques.
Course Outline
Application of Emotional Intelligence, communication, customer service, infection prevention, cleaning, disinfection, instrument identification and preparation, sterilization, storage, distribution, quality assurance and inventory management within the clinical environment.Learner Outcomes
- Adhere to safety standards.
- Identify manual and/or mechanical cleaning according to the manufacturer’s IFU for all general instrumentation.
- Determine, prepare, and use supplies required in the assembly process.
- Identify, inspect, assemble general instruments, checking for cleanliness & functionality utilizing count sheets.
- Package and label instrumentation.
- Safely operate sterilization equipment and perform verification and documentation of sterilization process.
- Perform high temperature (steam) and low temperature (hydrogen peroxide) sterilization.
