Course Description

This is an entry-level, hands-on course in basic woodworking techniques. Students will learn the properties and machining processes of wood that influence the design and construction of furniture, cabinetry, as well as the artistic applications of wood. The practical use of hand tools, power tools, and design principles will also be covered. Upon completion, students will apply their newly acquired skills and knowledge to produce a finished woodworking project. Skills from the NCCER curriculum will be included.

Students must wear closed-toe shoes to class.

Prerequisites

One of the following classes must be successfully completed prior to taking this class: CIX 7000, CIX 7020, or CIX 7017.

Successful completion of this course and CAR-CIX7000 will result in the student earning the NCCER Cabinetmaking Certification. Closed-toe shoes are required in all lab environments.
