Course Description

This course uses the NCCER training format and provides certificates of competency in level 1 plumbing knowledge. The topics covered include fittings, drains, and distribution systems.

  • Cast Iron Pipe and fittings
  • Carbon Steel Pipe and Fittings
  • Introduction to Drain, Waste, and Vent  Systems (DWV)
  • Introduction to Water Distribution systems

Learner Outcomes

Upon successfully completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate basic procedures appropriate to the plumbing procedures they are performing. This course introduces students to the different types of pipes and fittings used in plumbing applications. Students will learn the proper way to measure, cut, join, and support all types of pipes according to manufacturer instructions and applicable codes. Students will also be able to test the pressure of piping once installed.

This course will also introduce students to how DWV systems remove waste safely and effectively. At the conclusion of the course, students will be able to identify and describe on their own how system components work, as well as how building sewers and sewer drains connect the DWV system to the public sewer system.

Students must have successfully completed PLU-PLU8000 to register for this class. Upon successful completion of this class, students will earn the NCCER Plumbing Level 1 certification. Closed-toe shoes are required in all lab environments.
