Course Description

This is a brief and intensive course for the homeowner who is trying to decide if they should invest in solar energy. Participants will learn about photovoltaic systems, costs, benefits, and home suitability. Participants will also analyze their home and energy costs to conclude if solar energy is suitable for their home.

•    PV system sizing 
•    PV system costs 
•    Rebates and tax incentives 
•    Working with an installer 
•    Analyze respective energy bills

 
 

Learner Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

· Conclude if solar energy is suitable for your home

· Explain basic principles of solar systems

· Understand all working parts of a solar system

· Understand how to size solar components in a working solar system

· Estimate reasonable system costs, rebates, and incentives

· Identify financing options

· Understand the relationship between Watts, Kilowatts, Volts, and Amps

What to bring to class: 

If you have access to a complete year of energy bills, please bring them. If you only have one month or are not sure how to retrieve the information, that is ok too—we will figure it out together. Also, please feel free to bring your laptop or tablet to use in class.

Directions and Parking Information: 

This class will take place at Central Campus, the Zeiss Building, on the 4th floor, in room 4100. Once you enter the Zeiss Building, walk to the elevators and go to the 4th floor. When you get off the elevator on the 4th floor, turn to the left twice and walk straight down the hall—there you will see room 4100.
