Course Description

This course will provide individuals who carry the designation Dental Assistant I (DA I) with the knowledge and clinical skills to sit for a certification in Coronal Polishing in the state of North Carolina. The course is designed to meet the 7 hour In-State training requirement outlined by the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners (NCBDE).

Course Outline

Lecture portion– Online prior to lab portion
- Objectives
- History and Present-Day Coronal Polishing
- Principles of Coronal Polishing
- Proper positioning
- Abrasive polishing agents/rationale
- Importance of thorough health history
- Armamentarium
- Technique/Procedures
Clinical Lab portion – In-person; 9am -1pm

Principles of Coronal Polishing
- Indications and contraindications
- Operator and patient positioning
- Identifying abrasive polishing agents and rationale for use
· NC rules and regulations for coronal polishing for DA II
· Learn proper technique
- Supracoronal with a slow-speed handpiece
- Proper infection control procedures
