Course Description

This course will provide individuals who carry the designation Dental Assistant I (DA I) with the knowledge and clinical skills to sit for a certification in Coronal Polishing in the state of North Carolina. The course is designed to meet the 7 hour In-State training requirement outlined by the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners (NCBDE). 

Course Outline

  • Lecture portion– Online prior to lab portion
    • Objectives
    • History and Present-Day Coronal Polishing
    • Principles of Coronal Polishing
    • Proper positioning
    • Abrasive polishing agents/rationale
    • Importance of thorough health history
    • Armamentarium
    • Technique/Procedures
  • Clinical Lab portion – In-person; 9am -1pm

  • Principles of Coronal Polishing
    • Indications and contraindications
    • Operator and patient positioning
    • Identifying abrasive polishing agents and rationale for use
  • · NC rules and regulations for coronal polishing for DA II
  • · Learn proper technique
    • Supracoronal with a slow-speed handpiece
    • Proper infection control procedures
