Course Description

Discover the principles of investments and the various tools used in financial planning. Using this knowledge, you will be able to choose the appropriate investments to maximize your client's financial portfolio. Your client assessment will include tax considerations, economic factors, valuation methods, asset allocation techniques and performance evaluation.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion, students will understand the numerous investment vehicles that can be included in a client's personal investment portfolio, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, insurance-based investments, futures, options, foreign investments, real estate, and tangible assets.  They will be able to apply these investment vehicles to portfolio construction and management.

Method of Instruction: Lecture

Evaluation: Final Examination-There will be a final exam at the conclusion of each module.  A minimum grade of 75% must be earned on all exams that are administered as part of the program.  Students scoring 60% or higher on a final exam will be allowed one opportunity to retake the exam in an attempt to achieve a passing grade for that course module.  Students who score below 60% on a final are required to retake the module the next time it is offered.

Fundamentals of Financial Planning - Attain a comprehensive overview of the financial planning process. Understand the roles and responsibilities of a financial planner and gain the analytical skills to aid in fiduciary decision making. You will learn communication techniques, risk tolerance, time-value-of-money, regulatory issues and various financial planning applications.

Insurance Planning - Understand the importance of insurance when it comes to financial planning. In this course, you will grasp basic concepts in risk management and the various types of insurance, such as property, casualty, life, health, disability and long-term care.
