Course Description

The goal of this course is to equip candidates with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to successfully prepare for the Educational Interpreting Performance Assessment. By mastering the requirements of this critical performance assessment, participants will be prepared to deliberately practice for and take the assessment required by NCDPI to interpret in schools and by NCITLB for entry to licensure. *Please note, this course is not endorsed by, or affiliated with Boys Town/EIPA. 

Course Outline

Session 1: Collaboration, Confidence & Coming Up with Your Plan 

Session 2: Understanding EIPA Feedback & Common Lowest Scoring Areas 

Session 3: What “Pedagogical Style” Looks & Sounds Like (incl. fingerspelling) 

Session 4: Top-Down Processing & Discourse Mapping 

Session 5: Top-Down Processing & Discourse Mapping cont. 

Session 6: Prosody & Cohesion 

Session 7: Temporal, Spatial, Logical Relationships 

Learner Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to define the glossary terms and provide an example 

  1. Students will be able to identify discourse structures in the pedagogical style 

  1. Students will be able to identify areas of weakness in their work to mitigate it 

  1. Students will begin implement skills development plan individualized goals and objectives which they will continue to use after the completion of the course to prepare for their assessment 

  1. Students will work to build a collaborative network with classmates and promote confidence within each other 

Notes

EIPA Boys Town practice material subscription $15 monthly/$100 annually, any prior EIPA score with feedback. Ability to record video and upload. Reliable internet connection. Zoom.
