Course Description

Grow your influence, sharpen your communication, and learn to lead with greater impact. Coaching skills aren’t just for coaches -- they’re valuable for anyone who wants to lead more effectively, support others’ growth, and build stronger relationships.

In this hybrid course, you’ll develop practical, hands-on skills in three core coaching competencies: presence, active listening, and powerful questioning. These tools help you guide conversations, unlock insight, and build trust in both personal and professional settings. 

Whether you’re exploring coaching as a career or want to apply these skills in leadership, teaching, management, or client-facing roles, this course gives you a strong foundation.
 

Course Outline

•    Week 1 – Course kickoff, orientation, and introduction to coaching mindset and presence
•    Week 2 – Practicing presence and self-awareness in coaching conversations
•    Week 3 – Deep dive into active listening; practice and feedback
•    Week 4 – Listening for values, beliefs, and limiting assumptions
•    Week 5 – Crafting and using powerful questions for insight and forward movement
•    Week 6 – Integration, reflection, and next steps in developing as a coach

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

•    Demonstrate core coaching presence in 1:1 conversations
•    Apply active listening techniques to build trust and deepen understanding
•    Use powerful questions to help others reflect, gain clarity, and take action
•    Understand the foundational principles of coaching and its applications across careers
•    Evaluate whether coaching is a path they wish to pursue further
 

Notes

•    This is a hybrid course with a series of live online meetings and in-person meetings. Weeks 1, 3 and 6 are in-person meetings, and weeks 2, 4, 5 are live online meetings using the Microsoft Teams platform.
•    Participation in-person on the first and last meetings is required; regular attendance and participation during the class is expected.
•    No prerequisites are required.
•    Ideal for professionals, educators, managers, and anyone curious about coaching.
