Course Description

Harp students will get an opportunity for learning new repertoire from traditional folk music idiom in a supportive ensemble environment.

Course Outline

  1. Harp Technique
    • Review of basic principles
  2. Aural Technique
    • Learning repertoire through the aural tradition
  3. Ensemble skills
  4. Music Theory
  5. Keys and chord progressions
  6. Principles of arranging music

Learner Outcomes

Students will be able to perform traditional music from many cultures on the harp. They will acquire skills for performing in an ensemble setting and apply principles of basic music theory toward the goal of arranging their own music.

Notes

Method of Instruction: Demonstration, group drill and hands on instruction

Evaluation: Class performance at the end of the semester.

Prerequisites

A basic mastery of the instrument. By audition or permission of instructor.
