Course Description

This is an entry-level, hands-on course in basic woodworking techniques. Students will learn about the properties and machining processes of wood that influence the design and construction of furniture, cabinetry, and the artistic applications of wood. The practical use of hand tools, power tools, and design principles will also be covered. Upon completion, students will apply their newly acquired skills and knowledge to produce a finished woodworking project.

 

Course Outline

  • Hand Tools: Hand Planes and Chisels
  • Power Tools: Table Saw, Miter Box, Circular Saw, Jointer, Lathe, and Shaper
  • Cut and Fit Mortise and Tenon Joints (a key component of furniture making)
