Course Description

This 40 hour online class is designed to familiarize the crime scene detective and technician with the basic requirements of crime scene photography. Students learned the basic camera elements and functions in Part 1 of Crime Scene Photography and we are taking that to the next step in Part 2. Students will learn to identify the elements of a good, technical photograph and cover various types of crime scenes and what challenges they may have in photographing the scene and specific evidence.

  2. Use of Scales and Markers Relating to Photography
  3. Use of ALS and Eye Dangers
  4. Fingerprints and Foot Print Impressions
  5. Homicide Photos and Tips
  6. Burglary Photography
  7. Arson Scene Photos and Tips
  8. Motor Vehicle Photography
  9. Area and Aerial Photos
  10. Use of Flash Photography

 

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to complete the following:

  • Successfully photograph a crime scene.
  • More knowledgeable with the issues involving homicides, arson, vehicle incidents and area photography.
  • Properly photograph evidence involving close-up shots.
  • Learn the various uses of lighting, flash photography and other techniques used to illuminate crime scenes.
  • Techniques needed to enhance crime scenes in low light or poor conditions.

Prerequisites

  • This course is being offered to sworn Law Enforcement Officers or individuals associated with a law enforcement agency only.
