Course Description

This 32-hour online training class is designed for Detectives and Investigators, patrol officers, new police officers, and First Responders.  It will also be good for Police Command Staff to look into the future. The class introduces all the facts, laws, history and evidentary features related to the use of unmanned aerial vehicles by law enforcement. The current state and federal laws along with the challenges facing the FAA relative to the increase in drone activity is also covered. Advantages and disadvantages, search warrant issues and surveillance are explained in this course. Camera’s and technology explain the advances made recently. This unique online class gives a special look into the future in law enforcement. Main modules will cover history of drones, current police drones, other agencies and other uses by fire, weather, health care, delivery, insurance and first responders to name a few. This great online class includes numerous training photos, videos, PDFs and other subject matter links for resource material.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to accomplish the following:

  •   Have an understanding of the uses and objectives for unmanned aerial vehicles.
  •   Discuss in detail, the ability, types, costs, and variances of drones.
  •   Understand the causes and liability with the use of drones by law enforcement.
  •   Be knowledgeable with the legal issues and state requirements to use drones.
  •   Be aware of the advantages of drones for surveillance.
