Course Description

This hands-on workshop provides the student with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize, collect, and preserve evidence from a crime scene.  Participants will engage all the elements of crime scene processing, to include legal aspects, investigative principles and hands-on practice with equipment. Participants will also process crime scenes, collect and analyze evidence.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Perform legal searches in accordance with the fourth and fourteenth Amendments
  • Properly photograph a crime scene
  • Properly collect physical evidence
  • Prepare evidence for shipment to a crime laboratory

Evaluation: Class Participation, Quiz and Final Exam

Prerequisites

  • This course is being offered to sworn Law Enforcement Officers or individuals associated with a law enforcement agency only.

Students must register for or have previously taken the following courses:

  • FRN 7822 - Legal Issues of Crime Scene Searches
  • FRN 7920 - Basic Crime Scene Photography
