FIP-FIP7153 - Radiation Preparedness and Response
Course Description
This course will provide an overview of Radiological Emergency Preparedness for first responder agencies responding to a nuclear/radiological incident in Mecklenburg County. It will also cover ways to help manage when dealing with Weapons of Mass Destruction. Students will review various methods on detecting radiation, equipment used, decontamination procedures and overall safety working at radiological incidents. For fire personnel, this program will discuss response, operations and decontamination at radiological incidents. For law enforcement personnel, this program will discuss radiological awareness, traffic control points/security and decontamination procedures.Course Outline
The curriculum is designed to meet the training needs of persons serving in first responder roles such as fire service, law enforcement, emergency medical service and emergency management. This course is intended for responders who have varying levels of hazardous material response training. This program will also meet the requirements of FEMA and the Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) Program.Learner Outcomes
This program will provide fundamental knowledge for responding to incidents involving radioactive materials as well as incidents at the McGuire and Catawba Nuclear Plants. The information in the program will build on the training in existing hazardous materials coursework. As well as cover the PEAC software.Notes
