Course Description

This course is designed to reinforce and strengthen the existing skills of firefighters. The curriculum consists of three sections which will cover operations carried out by engine companies, hose deployment, and fire attack. This course is designed to challenge members to look "outside the box" and use different methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Course Outline

  • NFPA Essentials of Firefighting Chapters 16 & 21
  • IFSTA Chapter 13 ,15 ,& 16

Learner Outcomes

The student will review the roles and responsibilities of the engine company,and the different types of building construction. The fire behavior and building construction section will focus on stair egress ,fire spread, flashover, backdraft, and reading smoke. The hose deployment and size up will focus on hose loads, hose load estimation, hose line positions, fire stream and nozzles. The fire attack will cover methods of fire attack and engine company challenges such as upper floor fires, basement fires, and standpipe systems.
