EMS-EMT7065 - Paramedic Transition Course
Course Description
This course is intended to transition a provider currently credentialed as an EMT-Paramedic over to the National Paramedic level. This course will review the material and skills that have been removed from the scope of practice for the Paramedic as well as introduce and review the new material and skills for the Paramedic at NC State and National levels.Course Outline

Learner Outcomes
Upon course completion students will be able to:
- List the skills that are no longer approved for the Paramedic
- List the skills that have been added to or expanded within the Paramedic scope of practice
- Describe the indications and use of Oxygen humidifiers
- Describe the indications and use of simple face, venturi, and partial face masks for oxygen delivery
- Describe the use of tracheostomy masks
- List the steps in tracheobronchial suctioning of an intubated patient
- Describe the use of automated transport ventilators
- List the indications, contraindications, and procedures for the use of BiPAP and CPAP
- Describe the use of Waveform Capnography and define the waves, representations, and waveforms.
- Describe how to assist in the insertion of chest tubes
- List the indications, contraindications, and procedures for performing a percutaneous cricothyrotomy
- Identify and describe the use of mechanical CPR devices and recognize the need for specialized training and approval before implementation
- Describe proper techniques for mechanical patient restraint
- Identify unacceptable practices for patient restraint.
- Describe the proper administration of intranasal naloxone along with the indications and contraindications.
- Describe the steps for accessing indwelling catheters and implanted central IV ports.
- Detail the procedures for monitoring central lines
- List the indications, contraindications, locations, and procedures for administration of and vascular access with an IO needle.
- List the steps for proper intranasal medication administration.
- Outline the steps and indications/contraindications for use of the Morgan ® lens
- Detail the indications, contraindications, procedures, and precautions for initiation and monitoring of thrombolytic medication.
- List the steps in blood chemistry analysis
- Describe the implications of the results in blood chemistry analysis

Prerequisites
- Students must be currently certified as paramedics in the United States.
