Course Description

This course will provide EMT's with the knowledge used to provide medical monitoring and rehabilitation to emergency personnel that are involved in the mitigation of an emergency situation.

  • Mecklenburg County First Responder Protocols

Learner Outcomes

  • Describe importance of medical monitoring and rehab for emergency responders.
  • List some common issues faced by the rehab/ medical monitoring team.
  • List common signs and symptoms that indicate emergency responders should not be allowed to continue in their assigned duties at an emergency scene.
  • Explain the treatment for responders that experience dehydration, fatigue, muscle cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
  • Explain how pre-hydration can have a positive impact on emergency personnel during the operation period of an emergency situation.
  • List the recommended time parameters for emergency responders once they enter rehab.
  • Describe some of the factors that influence the location of the rehab area.
  • Describe the minimum qualifications of the rehab section manager.
