Course Description
This course provides physicians, nurses, EMS personnel and other allied health care professionals with updated information related to the current American Heart Association recommended standard of care. This class will specifically prepare students to provide advanced cardiac life support techniques to patients experiencing cardiac related health care issues.Course Outline

Learner Outcomes
The objectives of the course are:
- Describe the ACLS approach to the primary and secondary ABCD surveys and the 5 quadrant approach expanding the initial survey.
- Perform and review the primary ABCD survey in scenarios. Skills to be evaluated will be: Basic CPR 1 Rescuer. Application and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Discuss and review the skills of the secondary survey. This will include: tracheal intubation , intravascular access, identification of cardiac rhythms and selecting appropriate medication, development of a differential diagnosis for possible causes of cardiac arrest.
- Describe the 6H's and 6T's mnemonic that helps expand the differential diagnosis.
- Discuss pre-arrest and arrest patient management plans.
- Function as team leader for a cardiac arrest patient.

Prerequisites
- Students must have current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Recertification.
- The student must take the ACLS pretest and successfully pass prior to the start of class.
