EMS-EMT7210 - AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support Recertification (PALS)
Course Description
The Pediatric Advanced Life Support Recertification course is designed to aid the experienced pediatric healthcare provider in reviewing and updating the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently evaluate and effectively manage seriously ill infants and children.
This course will review topics that include assessing for respiratory and circulatory compromise, establishing treatment priorities and intervening when necessary to stabilize the child. Students will also review treatment of the respiratory and circulatory systems, management of cardiac arrest arrhythmias and immediate post resuscitation care.

Learner Outcomes
Objectives:
- Understand and perform the systematic approach to pediatric assessment of a seriously ill and injured child. This will include the general, primary, secondary and tertiary assessments.
- Understand the "assess-categorize-decide-act" approach to management of a seriously ill infant or child.
- Recognize and manage a child in respiratory distress or failure and/or compensated or hypotensive shock.
- Recognize and manage a child with a life-threating bradyarrhythmia, tachyarrhythmia or cardiac arrest rhythm.
- Describe key elements of resuscitation team behaviors and explain why the foundation of successful resuscitation includes both mastery of basics skills and effective team dynamics.
- Describe how to prevent further deterioration of the child's condition during the stabilization and transfer phases of care.

Prerequisites
- All Students must have a current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- The student must complete a pretest and successfully pass prior to entering the course.
