EMS-EMT7513 - Paramedic Refresher
Course Description
This will be a hybrid class with 16 hour of traditional classroom delivery and 104 hours of online course delivery. The course follows the DOT-Paramedic refresher training program and the standards set forth by the North Carolina Office of EMS. It is designed to review the minimum standard knowledge and skills required to function at the paramedic level. The course will not substitute for an initial paramedic training program.Course Outline
Overview of the paramedic profession to include characteristics of a paramedics, expanded scope of practice, well being of the paramedic. Other content included, cardiology, medical emergencies, trauma emergencies, special populations, advanced airway emergencies, medical legal aspects, anatomy & physiology, lifespan development and pharmacology.
All content will follow the National Standard EMS Curriculum.
Learner Outcomes
This course presents the allowing topics required by the State of North Carolina office of EMS-Airway, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Trauma, Medical. The student will review the assessment and treatment process for all content areas. At the course completion, the student will be able to conduct an adult and pediatric assessment when confronted with any of the above patient's complaints. The student will then apply current treatment processes to their patient.Notes
Method of Instruction: Hybrid with 16 hours of traditional classroom and 104 hours online instruction
Evaluation: Students will complete written quizzes on a weekly basis. Skills evaluations and scope of practice testing will be done the last two days of the course. Students must obtain a minimum score of 80 on all quizzes and the final written exam. A score of passing issued by the evaluator will be the accepted standard for the skills and scope of practice.
Prerequisites
- Student must have a current NC or National Registry Paramedic certification, or may not have been expired for more than four (4) years.
