Course Description

Review EMT topics: Pulmonary Assessment, lung sounds, Pulmonary Embolism (PE), Pneumonia, asthma, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Discuss and review the anatomy and physiology of the airway and respiratory system.
Practice using the NREMT assessment model to perform respiratory assessments.
Discuss signs and symptoms of PE, Pneumonia, asthma, and COPD.
Discuss current treatment options for PE, Pneumonia, asthma, and COPD.
Practice using Oxygen, O2 delivery devices, and albuterol.
Review Mecklenburg County First Responder Protocols that are related to Pulmonary Assessment, lung sounds, PE, Pneumonia, asthma, and COPD.

Describe Anatomy and Physiology of the airway and respiratory system.
Perform a medical assessment using the National Registry EMT assessment model of a patient presenting with respiratory complaints.
Demonstrate listening to lung sounds and recognize absent, clear, rales, rhonchi, and stridor lung sounds.
List signs and symptoms of PE, Pneumonia, asthma, and COPD.
Demonstrate and select the appropriate treatment options for PE, Pneumonia, asthma, and COPD including using oxygen, oxygen deliver devices, and albuterol.
