Review EMT topics: Pulmonary Assessment, lung sounds, Pulmonary Embolism (PE), Pneumonia, asthma, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).Course Outline
- Discuss and review the anatomy and physiology of the airway and respiratory system.
- Practice using the NREMT assessment model to perform respiratory assessments.
- Discuss signs and symptoms of PE, Pneumonia, asthma, and COPD.
- Discuss current treatment options for PE, Pneumonia, asthma, and COPD.
- Practice using Oxygen, O2 delivery devices, and albuterol.
- Review Mecklenburg County First Responder Protocols that are related to Pulmonary Assessment, lung sounds, PE, Pneumonia, asthma, and COPD.
Learner Outcomes
- Describe Anatomy and Physiology of the airway and respiratory system.
- Perform a medical assessment using the National Registry EMT assessment model of a patient presenting with respiratory complaints.
- Demonstrate listening to lung sounds and recognize absent, clear, rales, rhonchi, and stridor lung sounds.
- List signs and symptoms of PE, Pneumonia, asthma, and COPD.
- Demonstrate and select the appropriate treatment options for PE, Pneumonia, asthma, and COPD including using oxygen, oxygen deliver devices, and albuterol.
- Review Mecklenburg County First Responder Protocols that are related to Pulmonary Assessment, lung sounds, PE, Pneumonia, asthma, and COPD.
