Students will learn basic ICD-10-CM and CPT coding skills. Students will gain knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, insurance terminology, billing and reimbursement skills.

Learner Outcomes
- Students will learn how to code medical procedures using the CPT.
- Students will learn how to code diagnoses using the ICD-10-CM.
- Students will gain knowledge of the HCPCS coding system.
- Students will be proficient in completing a CMS1500 claim form.
- Students will gain knowledge and understanding of reimbursement procedures.
- Students will be exposed to medicolegal terminology and issues.
- Students will continue their knowledge of and gain additional medical terminology.
- Students will gain understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, Managed Care and commercial insurance plans.
Prerequisites
An approved application must be on file prior to enrollment. Students must:
- Successfully complete or test out of CIS-HEA7625 Medical Keyboarding
- Successfully complete OSC-HEA7254 Exploring Medical Language or show proof of successfully completing this course at another institution
