This course introduces medical assistants to assisting a provider with telemedicine visits. The use of a telemedicine will be introduced using the TytoCare exam kit. Students are expected to participate in the online course by reviewing the six modules and successfully completing a quiz for each module. Students will also be expected to successfully sign off on a competency using the TytoCare exam kit. This course is designed to meet 24 hours with 9 of the hours in a classroom setting.

Week one
Module 1: Introduction to Telemedicine
Module 2: Equipment for Telemedicine
Week Two
Module 3: Operating Telemedicine equipment
Module 4: Troubleshooting Telemedicine equipment
Week Three
Module 5: Effective communication with patient and provider
Module 6: Practicing Telemedicine communication and equipment
Learner Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Understand the difference between telemedicine and telehealth.
- Define five common types of telemedicine.
- List four elements of telemedicine.
- Discuss the importance of telemedicine in patient outcomes.
- Use communication skills to understand the patient’s medical concerns.
- Assess proper communication needed to provide improved overall healthcare services.
- Demonstrate knowledge of using telemedicine technology to assist a provider in a variety of exams.
- Assist a provider with a telemedicine exam for an adult, college student, and child.
