This course will provide training related to North Carolina's CDL-B regulations. Students will obtain extensive knowledge on vehicle inspection, range and road driving practice that will prepare them for the Class B Commercial Driver's Licence (CDL) final test.
Course Outline
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:- conduct a thorough pre-trip inspection
- identify all parts of the commercial vehicle
- perform various backing and driving maneuvers
- operate the truck safely on the road using an automatic transmission
Learner Outcomes
The student will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with the information received during the instructional period:
- Pre-trip inspection
- What makes a vehicle road worthy
- Learning to drive a vehicle with an automatic transmission
- Inclines
- Backing at various angles (90 and 45 degrees)
- Straight backing
- Over the road driving
- Post-trip inspections
- Emergency and Safety procedures
- Accident Reporting
- Class B skills overview and practice
Notes
Method of instruction: Lecture and lab including vehicle driving and testing.
Evaluation: exam with a test score of 80 or better, demonstration of skills and class participation.
Prerequisites
Student must obtain their Class B permit, DOT medical card and results of a DOT drug screen before registering for a class.
