Commercial Driving
CDL Information sessions are held multiple times each semester. To received general information about the CDL program or to be notified of dates and times of upcoming information sessions, complete the Information Request Form or email the Commercial Driver's License program directly.
Requirements to register
• Be at least 18 years old
• Possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License
• Obtain a North Carolina Class A Learner’s Permit
• Pass a DOT Physical and hold a valid DOT Medical Card
• Complete and pass a DOT Drug Screen (Negative results are required to enroll/remain in class)
To obtain a CDL-A Learner’s Permit you must pass the following tests at DMV

DOT Physical and DOT Drug Screen

Our classes also include recruiting sessions with trucking companies that will speak to our students about industry and potential employment
Classes meet:
• Daytime Session:
o 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 40 hours per week for eight weeks totaling 320 hours
• Daytime Session classes typically begin:
o Early January
o Late March
o Early May
o Early July
o Mid-September
o Mid-October
• Evening Session:
o 5–10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 20 hours per week for sixteen weeks totaling 320 hours
• Evening Classes typically begin:
o Early January
o Late April
o Mid-August
Students are registered continuously throughout the year.
Email the Commercial Driver's License program the required documents and you will be informed of what classes are available and select your preferred class for registration.

Note: these are automatic transmission classes (graduates will have a restriction on license prohibiting them from driving CMV with manual transmission. 85% of CMVs registered for road use today have automatic transmissions).
