Course Description
This course will provide Community Health Workers with a basic education and broad overview of substance use disorders. Students will learn to identify, understand and respond to signs of substance use. Myths, misconceptions, stereotypes, prejudice and stigma regarding substance use will also be addressed.

Demonstrate a clear understanding/working definition of substance use. Understand basic substance use models Recognize major classifications of psychoactive drugs, Identify substance use disorders and their common symptoms, Differentiate between effective and ineffective communication, Identify the services and resources available for substance use issues in the community content, Demonstrate a clear understanding/working definition of substance use
Define substance use, misuse, Learn appropriate terms and people first language, Understand basic substance use models, myths and misconceptions
